AFRL tests new firefighting technology

TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The ultra-high pressure system piston pump and nozzles work together to make a more effective fire-extinguishing system by allowing carbon dioxide and water to mix. The higher pressure from the pump also increases the effectiveness of the carbon dioxide, making it more heat-absorbent. Ultimately, the smaller amounts of water required to extinguish fires could result in smaller firetrucks. (Courtesy photo)
