Air Force 'founding fathers' exhibit opens at Pentagon
WASHINGTON -- Cicely Banfield, granddaughter of Brig. Gen. William "Billy" Mitchell, and her son, Landon Banfield, view the new founding fathers of the Air Force exhibit July 21 in the Pentagon. The exhibit was opened 83 years after General Mitchell's bombers sank the captured German battleship "Ostfriesland," testing the usefulness of planes in combat versus ships. (Courtesy photo)
