JAFFNA, Sri Lanka -- Army Maj. (Dr.) John Tis explains to a young Sri Lankan man the potential outcome of an operation to surgically separate his thumb from the rest of his hand. The scar tissue growth which has fused his fingers together was caused by a land-mine blast near here. Dr. Tis is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon with the 135th Field Surgical Team in Yongsan Army Garrison, South Korea. He is here as part of a humanitarian surgical training mission, which continues through May 2. (U.S. Air Force photo by Maj. Kris Meyle)
