Delta II rocket
1990's -- The first McDonnell Douglas Delta II rocket launch for 1997 lifts off from space launch complex 17A. Cape Canaveral Air Station carrying a NAVSTAR GPS satellite. Seconds after liftoff -- at T+13 seconds, the rocket self-destructed. The launch took place January 17, 1997. (U.S. Air Force photo)
