Altus shop improvement reuses waste water

Kent Reitenour prepares a KC-135 Stratotanker wheel to be cleaned in an automated wheel washer. After the washing tire, the hazardous waste material is piped to a newly implemented environmentally friendly waste water treatment system. The system has reduced the amount of exported waste from more than 27,000 pounds to less than 10 pounds annually. The water cleaning system uses bio media to consume the hazardous waste, which in turn creates a reusable supply of cleaning water. The new system will save the 97th Air Mobility Wing more than $47,500 per year. Mr. Reitenour is a 97th Maintenance Directorate wheel and tire shop mechanic.
