Temporary hospital finds permanent place in history
Tech. Sgt. Freddie Kirkwood begins sawing the edges of Bay II from the old Air Force Theater Hospital site Feb. 29 at Balad Air Base, Iraq. The engineers were able to successfully remove the section of concrete without any damage, maintaining the historical significance. The piece was then sent to the National Museum of Health and Science in Washington for an exhibit. Sergeant Kirkwood is a 332nd Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron heavy repair operator and technician deployed from Yokota Air Base, Japan. (U.S. Air Force photo/Maj. Scott Bryant)
