AF Academy volunteers renovate Navajo home
Air Force Academy Cadet 3rd Class Ted Ornelas and Cadet 2nd Class Holly Bigelow excavate frozen soil from underneath an Academy-built Navajo Hogan March 26 in Navajo, N.M. The soil must be excavated before concrete and block can be set to finish the traditional eight-sided Navajo home's foundation. The hogan will provide a home for a family on the Navajo reservation in northwest New Mexico. Cadets Bigelow and Ornelas are part of a group of 20 cadets, civil engineering faculty and family members who volunteered during the Academy's spring break to work on the Navajo reservation.
