Arresting development

Tech. Sgt. Emmanuel Ramirez lays out the turn buckles and spacers before driving four-foot stakes into the ground to prevent the arresting barrier system from shifting during an emergency landing March 12 at Balad Air Base, Iraq. The system is composed of a cable stretched out across the runway attached to a braking system that brings fighter aircraft to a smooth halt during emergency landings.
