Airmen employ laser joint direct attack munition in Iraq

An F-16 Fighting Falcon piloted by Capt. Michael Lutmer and loaded with 500-pound guided bomb unit-54 laser joint direct attack munitions awaits clearance to take off Aug. 15 from Joint Base Balad, Iraq. Two F-16 pilots with the 77th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron here employed a GBU-54 Aug. 12 against a moving enemy vehicle in Diyala province to support a combined Iraqi army and U.S. Marine operation.
