Recycling contract turns trash into treasure
Army Col. Kenneth Newlin greets local leader Sheikh Saad Hasan Altememy July 11 during a ribbon-cutting ceremony for an Iraqi-run recycling center at Joint Base Balad, Iraq. The 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, along with many sheikhs from the surrounding Balad area, are working together through the Iraqi-Based Industrial Zone program. The initiative compliments Multi-National Forces-Iraq's mission by providing safe, secure jobs for local Iraqis and by giving them additional contracting opportunities normally reserved for larger, foreign corporations. Colonel Newlin is the 76th Infantry BCT's deputy commander. (U.S. Army Photo/Sgt. Robert G. Cooper III)
