Field was a mechanized reconnaissance veteran who fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was wounded shortly after in 1945. After being discharged from the Army, Field started the first post-World War II Civil Air Patrol units in Binghamton, New York, and served in the CAP for more than 30 years, contributing to the success of the CAP today.
