First Lt. Kevin Summerbell shows his Purple Heart and Army patches he kept from serving in the Army, Feb. 19, 2015, at Joint Base Charleston, S.C. Summerbell later attended ROTC and commissioned as an officer in the Air Force to be a C-17 Globemaster III pilot, the same aircraft he was flown back on after being wounded in combat.
