3-time Super Bowl champ, AF pilot reflects on America’s game

Chad Hennings was a 1988 U.S. Air Force Academy graduate and he led the nation with 24 sacks and was awarded the Outland Trophy during the 1987 season -- an award that recognizes the nation’s best interior lineman. Hennings was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 11th round of the 1988 NFL draft, but he first served a four-year, active-duty commitment as an A-10 Thunderbolt II pilot before being able to gain a waiver when the Air Force went through a Reduction in Force in 1992. He would go on to serve almost 10 more years in the Air Force Reserve Individual Mobilization Augmentee program. (Photo courtesy of Air Force Athletics)
