Dr. Benji Maruyama, internationally acclaimed senior materials research engineer for the Air Force Research Laboratory, or AFRL, and Materials Research Society fellow, adjusts the ARES open-source software-enabled system in its early development stages in his lab in 2017. The autonomous research system, developed by Maruyama and his AFRL team, used artificial intelligence to design, execute and analyze experiments at a faster pace than traditional scientific research methods.
