  • DOD awards TRICARE-managed care support contracts

    The Defense Department announced on July 22 that the next generation of TRICARE-managed care support contracts were awarded. The new contracts, which go into effect nine months after the award, establish two TRICARE regions in the United States: East and West, instead of the current three.
  • New urgent care pilot program for Prime beneficiaries

    To increase access to care, the Defense Department is launching an Urgent Care Pilot Program for TRICARE Prime beneficiaries. This program allows Prime enrollees two visits to a network or TRICARE-authorized provider without a referral or prior authorization.
  • TRICARE improves mental health care, treatment

    People in distress may hesitate to reach out for help due to perceived stigma associated with seeking mental health treatment. This perception and the belief that care may be hard to get, may prevent some people who need care from getting it.   • TRICARE waives referral requirement for family members departing from Turkey

    The Defense Department ordered departure of about 700 family members of active-duty service members from southern Turkey, due to security concerns in the region. TRICARE is waiving the primary care manager referral requirement for all evacuated beneficiaries. This will help them get medical care while away from their homes and doctors.

  • TRICARE pharmacy copays change Feb. 1

    Military pharmacies and TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery will remain the lowest cost pharmacy option for TRICARE beneficiaries when some TRICARE pharmacy copays change Feb. 1. Most copays for prescription drugs in the home delivery program and retail network pharmacies will increase slightly.
  • Avoid paying more for prescription drugs

    This December, TRICARE beneficiaries can take action to avoid paying more for some prescription drugs. Beneficiaries filling a prescription for a select brand name maintenance drug at a retail pharmacy may need to move their prescription to either a military pharmacy or TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery. If not, they may have to pay full cost for their prescription.
  • Overseas members entitled to stateside care

    Overseas military families may face a problem when they return home to the United States for the holidays. Service members and their families enrolled in the TRICARE Overseas Program (TOP) or TOP Prime Remote are entitled to visit hospitals and clinics stateside and receive the same priority status as stateside enrollees. However, many of these overseas members are being denied access to care at medical treatment facilities (MTFs) simply because they are not enrolled to the MTF where they are seeking care.
  • What TRICARE beneficiaries need to know about open enrollment, marketplace

    It's time for open enrollment; the time of year when people can enroll in or change their health insurance plan. The open enrollment period for HealthCare.gov is Nov. 1 to Jan. 31 for 2016 coverage.

    Premiums for the Military Health System’s benefit plan for adult children between 21 and 26 years old have been announced. The premiums for TRICARE Young Adult (TYA) program will increase on Jan. 1 to $306 per month for TYA Prime, and $228 per month for TYA Standard.

    The Defense Health Agency, Office of Program Integrity (DHA-PI) has received a significant number of concerns from our TRICARE beneficiaries regarding unsolicited contact from call centers encouraging them to provide personally identifiable and health information.
