  • New training prepares Airmen to save lives

    Airmen are “arming up” their life-saving skills with Tactical Combat Casualty Care, also known as TCCC. TCCC is a standardized course created to equip every Airman, Soldier, Sailor and Marine with the basic skills to save lives in combat operations.

    It was chaotic. People were screaming. There was smoke coming out of the large sports utility vehicle that was smashed against a tree at the in front of a forest. A frantic woman clenching a child panics and cries for help near the vehicle. Miraculously, three Moody Airmen with life-saving medical knowledge were in the traffic the accident caused and rushed in to help. “I ran into the woods and on the ground was this young two-year-old, just laying in the wooded area, struggling to breathe,”
  • Stop The Bleed

    Everybody has the capacity to help somebody. That singular concept is the launching point for the “Stop the Bleed” campaign, a joint effort between the federal agencies and civilian organizations in response to Presidential Policy Directive 8. It is designed to build national resilience by empowering bystanders to understand and implement simple methods to stop or slow life-threatening bleeding, particularly during trauma events.

    It’s not every day that an Airman gets to experience firsthand what it means to “train like a Marine,” let alone teach them a few skills of his own. Senior Airman Ronnie Perez, a 460th Medical Operations Squadron medical technician, recently joined 35 Marines from Company A, Marine Cryptologic Support Battalion during their summer field training Aug. 16-18 at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
  • Airmen assist in Arizona highway rescue

    High winds and dust whipped the uniforms of two Airmen as they attempted to rescue a woman trapped in the cab of her semitractor-trailer. One of them applied his might to the piece of metal that kept the woman confined to her vehicle while the other held the door while trying to guide her down the steps of its cab toward safety.

    It was June 25, a normal Saturday of kayaking at the Ouachita River Whitewater Park in Malvern, Arkansas, for Senior Airman Colton Lien and his friends when they witnessed a woman fall out her inner tube into the middle of the river.

    Airman 1st Class Saul Vasquez, from Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, tore his radial artery during a misstep while performing maintenance on an F-15E Strike Eagle April 2, 2015. Thanks to the quick response of his co-workers providing self-aid and buddy care, they were able to keep Vasquez alive and get him the help he needed.
  • Hero to three: NCO saves lives from drunken driving accident

    Minutes from their home, laughing as they discussed the night’s events, a security forces Airman and his wife pulled up to the scene of a drunken driving accident. Sharing his experience of that night, he asks "Was it worth it?"
