  • Tech Ops Squadron is heartbeat of nuke treaty monitoring from air, sea, space

    PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. (AFNS)-- When the Defense Department needs bombs on target or fighters in the air, they reach out to any number of flying wings within the Air Force to task their squadrons to accomplish that mission. Yet when they need near-real time data of potential nuclear detonations, to include ballistic missile detection, radioactive plume debris collection, seismic activity or gamma ray emissions, there is only one wing within DOD that can meet that need.
  • Air Mobility Command enables delivery of Israel’s first F-35s

  • Turkey: Dependent departure authorized, accompanied PCS suspended

    Effective Sept. 2, Department of Defense-funded travel to Adana, Turkey (including Incirlik Air Base), for dependents has been suspended, and military and civilian dependents in the region are authorized to depart Turkey, announced Department of State and DOD officials.
  • Nellis breaks ground on DOD’s largest solar array

    Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, hosted a groundbreaking ceremony March 24 for the newest Air Force solar array, a photovoltaic farm named Nellis II. The system, upon completion, will provide 19 megawatts of direct current capacity to the base, making it the largest photovoltaic system in the Department of Defense.
  • TRANSCOM system brings DOD new capability to move patients

    U.S. Transportation Command (TRANSCOM) has rolled out a new capability that will allow the Defense Department to use air transport to move multiple patients with highly infectious diseases.
  • AF officials announce FY14 civilian workforce shaping

    The Air Force will reduce the size of its civilian workforce by about 900 positions in addition to maintaining approximately 7,000 vacancies across the force to meet the demands of a constrained fiscal 2014 budget, officials announced.

    The departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs reaffirmed their commitment to serve and care for the nation’s military veterans in a joint message issued by Acting Undersecretary of Defense Jessica L. Wright and Undersecretary of Veterans Affairs for Benefits Allison A. Hickey.
