    The rotation of Global Hawks, owned by the 319th Reconnaissance Wing Detachment 1, to Yokota Air Base, Japan, provides a stable location from which the platform can operate when inclement weather in Guam, including typhoon activities, hinder readiness.

    Today's look around the Air Force - a U.S. bomber task force deployed to Al Udeid Air Base completed its first mission in mid-May, the 33rd Fighter Wing at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, was chosen as a potential new F-35 training squadron, the Air Force is reactivating the 65th Aggressor Squadron and moving 11 F-35 Lightning A-II's to Nellis AFB, Nevada, and Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson announced the redesignation of the 319th Air Base Wing at Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota, as the 319th Reconnaissance Wing.
  • Secretary of the Air Force announces Grand Forks AFB re-designation

    The re-designation, initiated by Gen. Mike Holmes, Air Combat Command commander, aligns Grand Forks AFB’s host wing and the 69th Reconnaissance Group. The 69th RG, which flies the high-altitude, remotely-piloted RQ-4 Global Hawk aircraft, has been aligned under the 9th Reconnaissance Wing at Beale Air Force Base, California, since it initiated operations as a tenant at Grand Forks AFB in 2011.

The planes were powered with 90-horsepower engines that had a rough time just staying airborne, but they led a reconnaissance mission to kick off Gen. John J.   • Innovative 1st RS training provides RQ-4 student pilots valuable flying experience

    Becoming an RQ-4 Global Hawk pilot requires specific training, which is unique to remotely piloted aircraft. This training means new pilots not coming from previous manned platforms often have limited experience in the cockpit of an aircraft. The 1st Reconnaissance Squadron is aiming to increase their level of experience with their new, innovative Aviation Fundamentals Training program funded through the Squadron Innovation Fund.
