    The Air Force has selected Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, as the preferred location for hosting a new MQ-9 Reaper Wing with 24 remotely piloted aircraft. Vandenberg AFB, California, is considered a reasonable alternative.
  • 601st AOC's AMD provides critical link during hurricane relief

    In the throes of a hurricane, emerging requirements for military air assets throughout the affected area can create a chaotic web of demand signals with varying levels of priority. When those demands require the use of U.S. Transportation Command or Air National Guard assets, it is the job of the air mobility division within the 601st Air Operations Center and director of mobility forces Air Forces Northern Command to synchronize and facilitate the requests.

  • Flight of the Thunderbirds

    Retired Lt. Col. Dale Cooke, a former Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron Thunderbirds pilot from 1979 to 1982, walked into the 2nd FTS to prepare for something that would go down in the history books. He would fly with the original Slot Machine (now known as Aircraft #177), the last operational unmodified T-38A Talon Cooke flew with the Thunderbirds.

This was the first time the 401st Tactical Fighter Squadron deployed a detachment of personnel since fall 2015. The 401st TFS is from Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada, and brought about 120 personnel.
