  • AFICC awards large-scale architect and engineering services contract

    The Air Force Installation Contracting Center awarded a suite of architect and engineering services contracts Feb. 19, to support the Air Force’s sustainment, restoration and modernization program. The contracts, awarded by the 772nd Enterprise Sourcing Squadron, are part of the $2 billion Architect-Engineer Next program consisting of four contractor pools.

  • Memphis Belle opens at National Museum of the U.S. Air Force

    Seventy five years ago on May 17, 1943, the crew of the B-17F Memphis Belle completed their 25th combat mission in Nazi-occupied Europe. They overcame insurmountable odds by becoming the first U.S. Army Air Forces heavy bomber to complete 25 missions and return to the U.S. Exactly 75 years after their last mission, the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force has the renovated Memphis Belle on display to the public May 17, 2018.

  • Travis environmental restoration program is certified, sustainable

    Saving money, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and implementing green and sustainable remediation (GSR) to clean up contaminated groundwater sites recently earned Travis Air Force Base the honor of becoming the first Defense Department installation to receive greener cleanup certification by ASTM International standards.
  • Restored B-29 Superfortress flies for first time in 60 years

    After 16 years of hard work and dedication from numerous volunteers around the Wichita area, a B-29 Superfortress, also known as Doc, took to the skies July 17 at McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas, for its first flight since 1956.
  • McConnell community marks B-29 rollout

    One of more than the 1,600 B-29 Superfortresses assembled in Wichita, was delivered to the Army Air Forces on March 23, 1944, and that very same aircraft was "delivered" again on March 23, 2015, in commemoration of its restoration during a ceremony at McConnell Air Force Base.
