  • FY20 DAF safety awards announced

    Air Force Chief of Safety Maj. Gen. John T. Rauch Jr. recently announced the recipients for the fiscal year 2020 Secretary of the Air Force and Chief of Staff Safety Awards, as well as the Department of the Air Force Chief of Safety Awards.
  • Hanscom AFB team awards long-range radar integration contract with production options

    The Theater Battle Control Division, headquartered at Hanscom Air Force Base, awarded an $8.4 million integration contract to Lockheed Martin Corp. March 26 as part of the Three Dimensional Expeditionary Long-Range Radar Rapid Prototyping program.
  • CROWS recognized for System Security Engineering Cyber Guidebook

    The report, which was a follow-up to a 2018 report on weapon system cybersecurity, called out the U.S. Air Force’s Cyber Resiliency Office for Weapon Systems, or CROWS. It specifically cited the office for developing the System Security Engineering Cyber Guidebook to “consolidate references to different DoD and Air Force instructions and guidance into a single document and provide more detailed explanations and suggestions for implementation.”

    The Department of the Air Force debuted a new website for past and present Airmen and Guardians to correct their military records, April 5.
  • DAF seeks to modernize energy infrastructure through energy campaigns

    To address these challenges, the Air Force Warfighting Integration Capability, or AFWIC, [now AF Futures] Disruptive Technology Team, in partnership with AFWERX, launched the Reimagining Energy for the DoD Challenge Sept. 2, 2020. The Energy Challenge, an open crowdsourcing initiative, sought solutions to innovatively shape the future of resilient energy production, transmission, use and storage, thereby reducing demand and reliance on fossil fuels, while modernizing the energy infrastructure.

  • AFRL 'x-ray vision' tool to reduce costs, time for 3D part qualification

    The Air Force Research Laboratory, in partnership with the Materials Solutions Network at the Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source of Cornell University, has developed a tool that can look directly inside of and instantaneously inspect the structure of composite components while they are being manufactured. This new technology uses a combination of phase contrast imaging and micro-beam scanning to produce real-time X-ray scattering images of the component during and post production. The process is expected to save the Air Force millions of dollars in qualification and certification of composite parts used in advanced unmanned aerial vehicles and satellite systems.
  • VCSAF meets with accelerators of change in Boston

    Air Force Vice Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin arrived at Logan International Airport on Monday and stepped off the aircraft with an extra sense of urgency. His flight wasn’t late, nor was he running behind schedule for his meeting in downtown Boston. Allvin’s deliberate stride was appropriate to the stark reality the Air Force faces — the pacing threat China poses to U.S. national defense.
