  • Air Force Marathon extends current registration prices

    Prices for the marathon and half marathon will increase by $10 on June 8, while the cost of the 5K and 10K races will increase by $5. The price for the Fly! Fight! Win! Challenge Series, in which runners compete in the 5K, 10K and either the half marathon or marathon will increase by $20, and the Tailwind Trot 1K Kids’ Run will increase by $3.

  • Rescue helicopter pilots showcase VR capability to ACC leadership

    The trainer allows four people to don VR headgear and simultaneously enter a server to fly a virtual HH-60G Pave Hawk combat search and rescue helicopter in simulated training missions. The controls are the same equipment the helicopter uses to add further realism to the VR environment.

    Airmen with the Alaska Air National Guard’s 210th and 212th Rescue Squadrons rescued a Piper PA-22 Pacer pilot after the plane he was piloting crashed Jan. 22 at Chickaloon Flats.

  • Reserve Airmen support SpaceX Falcon Heavy milestone launch

    Reserve Airmen are used to supporting milestone rocket launches, and have supported manned spaceflight launches through the years; however, they have never supported a rocket toting a car. SpaceX’s CEO Elon Musk’s cherry red Roadster from Tesla, his electric car company, was the payload on the Falcon Heavy demonstration mission from Launch Complex 39A that lifted off from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, Florida, Feb. 7, 2018.
  • Stealth Guardian demonstrates rescue, 5th generation integration

    Two wings, one mission: to execute a local squadron-planned exercise between the 23d Wing and the 325th Fighter Wing during Exercise Stealth Guardian August 7-11, 2017. During months of planning between Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida and Moody AFB, Georgia., Exercise Stealth Guardian was conceived and executed by Airmen from both wings to explore Air Force capabilities in modern rescue scenarios to integrate rescue and 5th generation assets in a deployed or contingency environment.

    Airmen assigned to the Pacific Air Forces stood up the first rotation of an air contingent at Clark Air Base, Philippines, April 16, following a joint announcement by Secretary of Defense Ash Carter and Philippine Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin in Manila that highlighted several initiatives aimed to enhance bilateral relations between the two nations.

    Airmen from the 320th Special Tactics Squadron conducted an amphibious training operation along the west coast of Okinawa Sept. 22-24 to refresh qualifications and retain proficiency in various special tactics skill sets.

    The air erupted with the percussive sound of machine-gun fire. Master Sgt. Roger Sparks jumped out of an HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter and began the 40-foot hoist down to the bleeding men clinging to a tree for cover.
  • Airmen’s identities released following fatal AF helicopter crash

    Capt. Christopher S. Stover, Capt. Sean M. Ruane, Tech. Sgt. Dale E. Mathews, and Staff Sgt. Afton M. Ponce were the HH-60G Pave Hawk aircrew members killed in a crash on the Norfolk coast in England Jan. 7.
