  • CSAF Private Pilot Scholarship Program changing face of US aviation

    In 2018, almost half of all newly licensed female pilots between the ages of 17 and 19 were graduates of the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Flight Academy. This year, 150 cadets each received a scholarship from the Chief of Staff of the Air Force Scholarship Program to attend one of 11 universities across the country for an intensive eight-week program, and 45% of the class was female or minority.

  • AFTAC helps break the 'STEM mold'

    In 1976, esteemed historian and author Laurel Thatcher Ulrich wrote a book entitled, “Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History.” The premise of her work was to shine a light on famous women throughout history who challenged the way things were done. While the title may seem to be a modern-day rallying cry for women to go out and break the rules through misbehavior, that was not the premise of her message. Ulrich’s emphasis was to encourage women to do more – to break with convention, make a mark on history and prove that ordinary people, including women, can have a lasting impact on the world by doing the unexpected.
  • Breaking barriers: Miller nominated as AF Reserve's first 4-star

    Lt. Gen. Maryanne Miller was nominated by President Donald Trump and confirmed by the U.S. Senate for promotion to the rank of general Aug. 20. Miller will become the first Airman in the history of the Air Force Reserve to pin on a fourth star. In 2016, she became the first female chief of the Air Force Reserve and commander of the Air Force Reserve Command.
  • Sisters in service: Closing the joint warfighter’s diversity gap

    The Joint Women’s Leadership Symposium at the San Diego Convention Center June 20-22, 2018, included attendees from the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and other service members from 20 different countries. As the largest gathering of military women in the nation, it marked the 31st annual symposium hosted by the Sea Service Leadership Association. While both men and women are welcome to attend, about 30 men and 1,200 women took part in the symposium.
