The Fourth of July, a time for America to commemorate the passage of the Declaration of Independence, is often celebrated with parades, concerts, firework shows, family road trips, barbecues, and parties where participants toast to the nation.
FY20 DAF safety awards announced
Air Force Chief of Safety Maj. Gen. John T. Rauch Jr. recently announced the recipients for the fiscal year 2020 Secretary of the Air Force and Chief of Staff Safety Awards, as well as the Department of the Air Force Chief of Safety Awards.
Third annual Spring Motorcycle Focus kicks off
From novice to seasoned motorcycle rider, proper training can make a difference in the rider’s life and overall safety of others. Riding a motorcycle is an inherently dangerous activity; however, the risks can be mitigated with preparation and awareness.

AFSEC full speed ahead with virtual return to teaching
With in-resident courses cancelled, the Safety Center needed to implement some changes to the courseware and the platform used to facilitate Air Force safety training needs as quickly as possible. Accepting the challenges head on, the Training & Force Development Division adapted and overcame the issues and constraints imposed by new platforms to accommodate students and make it work.

Air Force to launch second annual Spring Motorcycle Focus
In fiscal year 2019, the Air Force witnessed a significant reduction in motorcycle fatalities resulting in a 57.5% decrease compared to the recent five-year average.
Safety: A key component in any good holiday celebration
Throughout the past decade, 35 Airmen lost their lives to on- and off-duty preventable accidents during the holidays. Last winter alone, Airmen suffered 251 accidents that took them out of work at least one day, with a cost to readiness of nearly 11 work years.
Air Force motorcycle mishaps hit historic lows
In fiscal year 2019, the Air Force saw a 69% reduction in motorcycle fatalities and a 41.5% decrease in lost-time injuries over a 10 year period. Fatalities dropped from 13 in 2010 to four in 2019 and lost-time injuries during that same period decreased from 224 to 131.
Motorcycle Safety Training: What AF riders need to know
Training season for motorcyclists is just around the corner, and as training gets into full swing, it may be helpful to shed some light on the Air Force’s training requirements, review the proper acronyms for the Motorcycle Safety Foundation courses and dispel some misinformation.
Air Force Safety goes mobile
The Air Force Safety Center released a mobile version of the Airman Safety App, Nov. 15, enabling Airmen at installations Air Force-wide to voluntarily report safety issues with their devices as they encounter them.
Evolution of the Airman Safety App
The evolution of the Air Force Safety Center’s Airman Safety App reached an important milestone with recent software updates Dec. 1, 2017. This simple, web-based tool provides a streamlined process for all Airmen, their families and anyone accessing the base to report safety issues as they encounter them.
Focus on fall prevention can reduce serious injuries
Air Force Occupational Safety will focus on the importance of life-saving fall prevention measures during Fall Prevention Focus, May 8 – 19, 2017, marking the fourth year the Air Force has partnered with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the National Institute of Occupation Safety and Health to draw attention to fall prevention.
