  • Air University elective broadens SOS students’ research experience

    The Air University Advanced Research Elective was first introduced to students in 2018 as a vehicle to foster collaboration between SOS and the rest of the university.
  • OTS prepares for arrival of “Godzilla” class

    What is being dubbed the “Godzilla” class, OTS Class 19-07 will push the school to its maximum capacity by tipping the scales with the expected arrival of 800 officer trainees in mid-July.
  • Around the Air Force: Flight Equipment / F-35A Integration / GI Bill Transferability

    On today's look around the Air Force, Air Force flight equipment is being redesigned for female aviators, and for the first time, U.S. Air Force F-35As integrated operationally with Italian Air Force F-35As, making use of one of its main technological design features of interoperability. Also, service members who want to transfer Post 9/11 G.I. Bill benefits to their spouse or dependent children will see some changes starting July 12th.
  • Secretary, chief of staff initiate dialogue with commanders on a plan for new officer promotion categories

    The memo explains the proposed change and directs commanders to solicit and provide feedback from officers to major command commanders by July 31, with “a final recommendation due to the secretary and chief not later than 30 August 2019.”
  • Air Force announces artificial intelligence research with MIT

    Beginning this summer, the combined officer and enlisted team representing various Air Force career fields, is expected to work with researchers at MIT to harness the university’s student talent, renowned faculty and state-of-the art facilities and laboratories. The partnership will address a broad range of AI projects such as decision support, maintenance and logistics, talent management, medical readiness, situational awareness, business operations and disaster relief.
  • Changes to Post-9/11 GI Bill transfers effective July 2019

    The transferability option under the Post-9/11 GI Bill allows service members to transfer all or some unused benefits to their spouse or dependent children. The request to transfer unused GI Bill benefits to eligible dependents must be completed while serving as an active member of the Armed Forces. The Department of Defense determines whether or not you can transfer benefits to your family. Once the DoD approves benefits for transfer, the new beneficiaries apply for them at Veterans Affairs.

    The Air Force announced today it will make adjustments to the way the Air Force Form 709, Promotion Recommendation Form, will be filled out and used for Total Force officer promotion boards beginning in September 2019.
  • OTS beta courses aim to test shortened commissioning program for SNCOs

    Air Education and Training Command officials are reimagining how Airmen are developed and are announcing two beta course tests that would shorten the officer commissioning program for senior noncommissioned officers, April 30.
  • Air Force announces selection process for officer instructor and recruiting special duty assignments

    The Air Force announced that beginning in April 2019, officers will be screened and selected for formal instructor and recruiting special duty positions.
  • Air Force Special Tactics 830-mile march for fallen culminates with memorial ceremony

    Twenty Special Tactics Airmen will culminate their 830-mile Special Tactics Memorial March for fallen brethren on March 4 with a memorial ceremony hosted by Air Force Special Operations Command at Hurlbert Field. The ruck marchers will finish their journey along Highway 98/Miracle Strip Highway joined by senior leaders, comrades and community members.
  • Commanders, senior raters to select IDE attendees

    Beginning with the 2019 Developmental Education Designation Board, wing commanders and some senior raters will be able to select one Line of the Air Force officer per academic year to attend Intermediate Developmental Education in residence.

    The calendar year 2018D major Line of the Air Force promotion board is scheduled to begin Dec. 3, 2018, at the Air Force’s Personnel Center and will review records for all captains meeting the board to determine whether or not the captain is fully qualified for promotion and meets the exemplary conduct provisions required for promotion.
