  • No effort spared to bring wounded Soldier home

    In mid-August, Air Mobility Command’s 618th Air Operations Center was notified of an injured Soldier in need of urgent aeromedical evacuation out of Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan. Immediately, AOC Airmen started to build a mission – REACH 797 – to help save one Soldier whose survival was in question after being critically wounded in a blast.

    Dozens of Travis AFB Airmen traveled to Fairchild AFB to support the exercise and Travis AFB will serve as an intermediate staging base throughout the exercise, providing a wide range of support from the largest air mobility hub in the Air Force.
  • Lighting up the runway: 386th ECES maintains flightline

    The group of Airmen jump in their truck on the side of the taxiway. While bathing in the frosty air conditioning, a C-17 Globemaster III suddenly soars past the truck from the left, and moments later, an eardrum-bursting sound roars across the bright skies of Kuwait as the hulking aircraft lifts off the tarmac.
  • 315th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron trains alongside Royal Air Force

    Reservists from the U.S. Air Force Reserve 315th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron and Royal Auxiliary Air Force No. 4626 Squadron focused on sharing key aeromedical evacuation skills and leadership and teamwork experiences. Because both units are made up primarily of reservists, the training provided a unique opportunity for members to also discuss how they could use the training in their civilian careers.

    Urban search and rescue is considered a "multi-hazard" discipline, as it may be needed for a variety of emergencies or disasters, including earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, dam failures, technological accidents, terrorist activities and hazardous materials releases.
  • All in a weekend: JB Charleston's 315th Reserve Airmen deliver humanitarian aid to Dominican Republic

    The dual-purpose weekend humanitarian and training mission allowed for the Reserve aircrew to maintain flying currency and readiness requirements, with the added benefit of delivering humanitarian aid to organizations in the Caribbean via the Denton Cargo Program.

  • Reserve & Active Airmen team up at Palmetto Challenge

    Airmen trained on “real world” scenarios that could happen in a deployed environment when provided limited resources. For exercise purposes, there were two “deployed” locations, one at Pope AAF and the other at McEntire Joint National Guard Base, South Carolina.

    A C-17 Globemaster III joint aircrew from the 315th and 437th Airlift wing’s from Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina, delivered about 10,000 pounds of humanitarian aid April 6, to St. Kitts-Nevis.
  • Travis AFB supports Cyclone Idai relief efforts

    Two C-17 Globemaster III crews assigned to the 21st Airlift Squadron from Travis Air Force Base arrived in Djibouti April 5 to aid Cyclone Idai relief efforts.
  • New chapter for the 911th Airlift Wing

    As of the first week of April, three out of the eight C-17s assigned to the 911th AW will be stationed at the Pittsburgh International Airport Air Reserve Station. The rest of the aircraft are to arrive over the next few months.

    The U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III team lead, is drenched in sweat, his face bright red. The heat index is well over 100 degrees and half-moon circles creep through his flight suit, the humidity soaring off the charts. Yet he doesn’t seem to mind, letting it roll right off of him like water off a duck’s back. After he takes the first selfie with a joyful teenage visitor, a line of adults, adolescents and children form a line around him, all of them patiently waiting their turn to take a photo with him.
