  • Edwards AFB sends earthquake response to nearby base

    According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the first earthquake struck at 10:33 a.m. July 4 with a 6.4 magnitude and is now considered a foreshock. A second quake shook the area the following day at 8:20 p.m. with a stronger 7.1 magnitude. Estimated economic losses of what the USGS now calls the Searles Quake are at least $1 billion; furthermore, the air control tower at Plant 42 was also damaged. The exact extent of that damage is still under review.

    Approximately 80 members of the Utah Air National Guard participated in the humanitarian civic assistance portion of exercise African Lion 2019 in Tata, Morocco, March 25 through April 3.
  • Aerial refueling probe light evaluations flown with KC-135: Effort to clear Navy, USMC F-35 night refueling envelope

    The F-35 Lightning II program recently completed testing on an improved lighting assembly with the KC-135 Stratotanker that will enable the Navy and Marine Corps F-35 variants to refuel behind the tanker at night. Flight testing of the redesigned light, which attaches to a refueling probe, was led by Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Maryland, and supported by Edwards Air Force Base, California.

    Bronze statues can be seen almost anywhere but one rarely hears the amazing stories behind their creation. The spouse of a Reserve Airman here at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona, recently sculpted a bust of Senior Airman Daniel Johnson, 30th Civil Engineer Squadron explosive ordnance disposal technician, Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. Johnson was killed in action Oct. 5, 2010, while serving during Operation Enduring Freedom.
