HNIB expands Air Force network capacity to 200,000 teleworkers

Future narrowband satellite capability to transfer to Air Force
In a memorandum dated May 28, Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson and Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer announced the transfer of responsibility for future narrowband satellite communications.
Command Post: Getting the message out
The command post is a hub of incoming and outgoing communications on any base 24/7. They are the central communication liaison between agencies and personnel such as major commands, commanders, first sergeants, Air Force Red Cross and base agencies for Airmen base wide.
AFIMSC Innovation Office seeks game-changing ideas
The Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center Innovation Office will launch a program in the new year to help Airmen implement their innovative ideas. The campaign, open Jan. 1-31, 2019, gives military and civilian members of mission support groups worldwide a chance to fund their ideas and partner with innovation experts.
AFSPC assumes COMSATCOM procurement responsibility for DoD
The Air Force Space Command commander assumed responsibility for procurement of commercial satellite communications services for the Department of Defense from the Director of the Defense Information Systems Agency December 12. The move is in accordance with Section 1601(a) of the Fiscal Year 2018 National Defense Authorization Act.

AF upgrades to Windows 10
In accordance with the Department of Defense mandate, the Air Force must complete the Microsoft Windows 10 migration by March 31, 2018. Any operating system not upgraded by the deadline will be denied access to the network.
821st CRG deploys throughout the Caribbean
The 821st Contingency Response Group stationed at Travis Air Force Base, California, deployed four teams throughout the Caribbean to support Hurricane Maria disaster relief efforts.
Illinois ANG provides communications in Puerto Rico
The Illinois ANG arrived on the island on Sept. 23, 2017. Within the day following, the eight-member team from the 126th Communications Flight set up a Joint Incident Site Communications Capability adjacent to the Puerto Rico ANG’s 156th Wing operations building at Muniz Air National Guard Base, Puerto Rico. This team of Airmen is now providing emergency communications capability to the wing’s command post and 24-hour support.
