  • AFGSC tests Minuteman III missile launch from Vandenberg AFB

    A team of Air Force Global Strike Command Airmen from the 341st Missile Wing at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana; the 90th MW at F.E. Warren AFB, Wyoming; and the 91st MW at Minot AFB, North Dakota, launched an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile equipped with a test reentry vehicle, Feb. 5 from Vandenberg AFB, California.
  • Air Force leadership conducts privatized housing tour at Barksdale AFB

    The privatized housing tour familiarized the leaders with the current condition of privatized base housing on the installation, aligning with current Air Force efforts to improve the Military Housing Privatization Initiative Program for the service.
  • Final CALCM missile package retired

    The CALCM missile has been employed in combat operations to include Desert Storm, Desert Strike, Desert Fox, Allied Force, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Decades later, the final missile package was disassembled to become demilitarized.
  • Barksdale AFB honors veteran with building commemoration

    The life-long service of a military veteran has been forever memorialized following the renaming and dedication of the 2nd Mission Support Group building at Barksdale Air Force Base during a ceremony Nov. 8.

  • Shaw AFB prepares for Hurricane Dorian

    Service members have been working hard to protect the installation against potential wind damage and flooding, such as placing sandbags around buildings, securing objects that could become flying hazards and fueling generators for possible power outages.
  • AFGSC orders B-1B safety stand-down

    The commander of Air Force Global Strike Command ordered a safety stand-down of the B-1B Lancer fleet March 28.
  • U.S. Air Force B-52s deploy to Europe

    A Bomber Task Force deployment of B-52 Stratofortress aircraft, Airmen and support equipment from the 2nd Bomb Wing, Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, have arrived in the U.S. European Command area of operations for a deployment to conduct theater integration and flying training.
  • Repair facility saves AFGSC $13 million

    The nuclear mission cannot be stopped by old or non-functioning aircraft components. The solution to this is a trip to a bomber hydraulic Centralized Repair Facility which saves time and money.
  • AFGSC completes first New START bomber conversion

    Air Force Global Strike Command has begun the conversion of a portion of the B-52H bomber fleet from a nuclear to a conventional only capability aircraft under the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START).
  • Barksdale reservist saves a life

    For the average worker, leaving the house every day doesn't lead to becoming a hero, however, for first responders that possibility is always there, as is the chance for disaster. When Bowie County Sheriff Deputy Kenny McMillen, who is also an Air Force reservist assigned to the 307th RED HORSE at Barksdale Air Force Base started the graveyard shift on March 8, it began like any other. Within hours that would all change.

  • Search continues for missing Airman in Guam

    An Airman who has been missing since Dec. 1 has been identified as Airman Alec M. Dye. Dye was deployed to Andersen Air Force Base from the 2nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, and was last seen near Tarague Beach, Guam.
