    Two Airmen received the Distinguished Flying Cross May 23, 2018, in recognition of their actions in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Maj. Matthew “Chowder” Cichowski and Capt. William “Archer” Dana both, 74th Fighter Squadron A-10C Thunderbolt II pilots, risked life and limb while deployed to Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, to protect Syrian Democratic Forces, or SDF, from a common enemy.

  • Upgrading the fuel structure in the AOR with experience and a strong work ethic

    The 386th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron’s fuels management flight is responsible for supplying approximately 150,000 gallons of fuel a day supporting Operation Inherent Resolve. The POL team works to improve fuel efficiency, saving the Defense Logistics Agency and U.S. Air Force time and money. Maintenance upgrades to the fuel distribution structure are currently underway with a plan to redesign the system for effective expeditionary results.

The wing’s remotely piloted aircraft unit, the 46th Expeditionary Attack Squadron, transitioned its attack and reconnaissance airframes from the MQ-1B Predator to the Block 5 MQ-9A Reaper.

Ben Rudolphi saw his mission change before even leaving the U.S. Instead of manning his aircraft, he was given the opportunity to lead others as the commander of the 407th Expeditionary Operation Support Squadron and accepted the position.
  • Island defenders: Guam guardsmen protect expeditionary base, coalition mission

    For a team of Airmen from Guam, the monotony of the landscape surrounding them lies in stark contrast with the lush green hills of the Pacific island they left behind. These security forces members deployed from the 254th Security Forces Squadron of the Guam Air National Guard to secure access points to the installation and patrol perimeter fence lines and facilities of the 407th Air Expeditionary Group.
  • Weather flight critical to coalition mission

    Dropping bombs on target in Syria and Iraq during combat missions supporting Operation Inherent Resolve requires a complex array of information, including intelligence gathered well in advance of the combat sortie. Often times, this intelligence is gathered by coalition partners flying out of the 407th Air Expeditionary Group. But there is an unseen force providing those units information critical to their mission.
