  • Tyndall AFB rebuilds after Hurricane Michael

    When Hurricane Michael approached Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, last month, Col. Brian Laidlaw, 325th Fighter Wing commander released an evacuation order in an effort to keep the base’s most important assets, its people, safe. With exception of the ride-out team, comprised of nearly 100 Tyndall members, everyone left. Among the mix of those remaining were first responders, base leadership and command post personnel.
  • Air Force responds to Hurricane Michael

    Hurricane Michael hit the Florida Panhandle as a Category 4 hurricane Oct. 10, with Tyndall Air Force Base directly in its path. Active-duty and National Guard service members were pre-positioned to provide assistance during the storm. And within hours after the hurricane ended, additional Airmen began arriving from across the country to assess the damage, clear the path for first responders, begin to repair the base and provide humanitarian assistance to the area.

  • CRG provides hope to Tyndall AFB after Hurricane Michael wreaks havoc

    On the afternoon of Oct. 10, Hurricane Michael, a Category 4 hurricane, ripped through Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, and the surrounding area leaving severe damage through its path. Airmen from the 821st Contingency Response Group, Travis Air Force Base, California, received the alert call the next day and within 12 hours, a small initial assessment team headed out the door via a C-17 Globemaster III to assess damage to the airfield.

  • TRICARE announces temporary suspension of physician referrals for beneficiaries affected by Hurricane Florence

    The Defense Health Agency announced TRICARE beneficiaries under mandatory evacuation orders in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia may see a provider in any location without a referral from their primary care provider due to the impact of Hurricane Florence. The waiver applies to beneficiaries in approximately 40 counties where state governors have ordered evacuations as Florence approaches.
  • Air chiefs from across the Americas convene in Panama City to promote cooperation

    Air force leaders from 19 nations in the Western Hemisphere met in Panama City June 18-22, 2018, for the 58th Conference of American Air Chiefs (CONJEFAMER, per its Spanish acronym). At the annual meeting, these allied nations build partnerships among air forces, discuss their collective mission and vision, and plan future exercises, continuing a 50-plus year history of cooperation and goodwill across the Americas.
  • Dentist charters private plane for Puerto Rico

    Ortiz Gonzales reached out to a friend from dental school, who was also from Puerto Rico. Together, they worked with a church in Florida and chartered a private plane. It wasn’t cheap, but the price did not deter her. She personally funded the mission and got to work gathering supplies to fill the entire plane – from all the fixings for a massive Thanksgiving dinner, to water, to generators and solar lamps.
