  • JB Charleston evacuates aircraft, maintains airlift capabilities

    Joint Base Charleston personnel assigned to the 437th Airlift Wing and 628th Air Base Wing began evacuation flights for 24 C-17 Globemaster III aircraft Sept. 11, 2018, in anticipation of Hurricane Florence making landfall. The aircraft and supporting personnel planned and executed flights from Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina to three designated safe locations within 48 hours of notification, a move designed to sustain the wing’s airlift capability.
  • Airmen, medical researchers team up for inflight TIS training

    Airmen from the 628th and 375th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadrons from Joint Base Charleston and Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, along with medical researchers from universities in Indiana and Nebraska, conducted Transportation Isolation System training July 18, on a flight from JB Charleston to Offutt AFB, Nebraska.
  • Air Force CTCS’s win DoD combat camera titles

    Teams from Joint Base Charleston’s Combat Camera Total Force Initiative squadrons took two of the top three placings at the 2018 Specialist Hilda I. Clayton Best Combat Camera Competition. Four teams of two from the active duty 1st Combat Camera Squadron and the reserve 4 CTCS participated in the competition at Ft. George G. Meade, Maryland, and Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, April 29-May 4, 2018.

    The 2018 Berlin Air and Trade Show fell under the same year as the 70th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift, in which U.S. and allied forces airlifted supplies into West Berlin following a Soviet blockade of the city.
  • JB Charleston trains ANG to be globemasters

    The first of four C-17 Globemaster IIIs was transferred from Joint Base Charleston to the Charlotte Air National Guard, N.C. April 7, 2018 as part of a congressional mandate. Through this directive Joint base Charleston will send 16 C-17s to four Air National Guard bases.

  • Partnership enables JB Charleston sealift relief efforts to Puerto Rico

    The first humanitarian relief supplies sealifted from Joint Base Charleston to Ponce, Puerto Rico departed Oct. 31, 2017. In the hours following Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, JB Charleston C-17 Globemaster IIIs responded delivering more than 1,700 tons of aid, supplies and medical teams to affected areas. Although the C-17’s have the ability to get to austere locations quickly, the amount of cargo it can carry is limited.

  • 601st AOC's AMD provides critical link during hurricane relief

    In the throes of a hurricane, emerging requirements for military air assets throughout the affected area can create a chaotic web of demand signals with varying levels of priority. When those demands require the use of U.S. Transportation Command or Air National Guard assets, it is the job of the air mobility division within the 601st Air Operations Center and director of mobility forces Air Forces Northern Command to synchronize and facilitate the requests.
