  • Air Force update for COVID-19

    In an effort to minimize the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 and to prioritize the health and safety of Department of the Air Force personnel, the following modifications have been made:
  • Aircraft availability, readiness increases at three bases thanks to new methodology

    The Air Force is seeing success in new sustainment initiatives resulting in increased aircraft availability and readiness across three of its bases.
  • Next-generation helmets keep Defenders lethal, ready

    The Air Force Security Forces Center is delivering the next generation of ballistic helmets to security forces units as part of its effort to standardize and modernize Defender equipment across the Air Force.
  • Joint service members utilize JB San Antonio landing zones for vertical lift training

    As San Antonio continues to develop out from the city’s center, outlying areas that were once remote are now impacted by the encroachment of land development. This expansion places additional pressure on nearby military training activities to consider noise, light, traffic volume, safety and other environmental factors.
  • Department of the Air Force pushes fitness testing to Jan. 1

    To continue minimizing close contact among personnel during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and ensure units and personnel are fully ready to resume, testing has been delayed from October to January, and testing in January will move forward without obtaining waist, height and weight measurements.
  • AFW2 Fit Games: Taking virtual fitness by storm

    The Fit Games are a fitness challenge that will consist of predesignated bodyweight exercises, fulfilled by an established number of reps per exercise and round. Open for all AFW2 warriors and Invictus Games U.S. Team athletes to participate, this fitness event will be the first of its kind geared towards engaging warriors in a non-sport specific challenge.
  • Airmen find solution to KC135 and C130 battery testing failure, reducing cost and maintenance delays

    The batteries serve as the aircraft’s backup to power essential equipment should engine generators fail. To date, the Air Force C-130 and KC-135 fleets, more than 600 aircraft globally, operate with the batteries.
  • Department of the Air Force delegates approval authority for nonchargeable emergency leave of absence

    Unit commanders or civilian directors may now grant an emergency leave of absence for qualifying emergencies, including the death or serious medical condition of an immediate family member, or any other hardship the commander or director determines appropriate.
  • Advanced Battle Management System field test brings Joint Force together across all domains during second onramp

    In the latest exercise, known as an “onramp,” operators used ABMS to detect and defeat efforts to disrupt U.S. operations in space in addition to countering attacks against the U.S. homeland, including shooting down a cruise missile “surrogate” with a hypervelocity weapon.
  • Little Rock AFB maintenance squadron achieves full operational capability

    The designation signifies that the squadron has met a rigorous set of criteria, including an approved concept of operations and a high percentage of trained, qualified and certified personnel.
  • DHA launches new Air Force military hospital and clinic websites

    The transition to the TRICARE.mil domain incorporates new layouts and adds helpful features to enhance the user experience and provide easier access to information about the local military hospital or clinic and the TRICARE benefit in one place.
  • ACC builds leaders armed for action

    Inspired by the Greek goddess of wisdom and war, Athena, Air Combat Command recently completed the first-ever inaugural Sword Athena Leadership Symposium, Aug 12-14, at Joint Base Langley-Eustis. The theme for this year’s event was “Building Leaders Armed for Action.”
  • Warriors unite through community networks

    AFW2 community programs connect warriors to local events, activities and resources within the 46,000 veteran service organizations located nationwide. The team utilizes social media platforms to connect with veteran service organizations and obtain vital information, which they streamline and share with warriors and their families.
  • Scott AFB personnel responds to flash floods

    An Aug. 12 storm produced approximately 5.5 inches of rain which caused flash floods that closed on- and off-base roads, the C-21 hangar and on- and off-base housing areas.
  • Academy cadets celebrate Acceptance Day

    Despite strict parameters to mitigate the coronavirus, including spatial distancing, mandatory wear of facemasks and a very limited audience, Acceptance Day held all the tradition one would expect at an event usually attended by thousands of friends and relatives.
  • Special Warfare career fields update entry requirements

    In January of 2019, the wing revised its previous A&S into a single, more comprehensive process designed to push and test the upper limits of a candidate’s physical, mental and cognitive abilities.
  • Prince Sultan AB boosts CENTCOM AOR refueling capabilities

    Just 48 hours before the KC-135 from the 349th Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron left Al Udeid Air Base to conduct refueling missions in the region, the 378th ELRS was given a task: To develop, build and sustain a rapid refueling capability at Prince Sultan Air Base. That’s exactly what they did.
  • AFLCMC awards Skyborg contract

    These initial awards will establish a vendor pool that will continue to compete for up to $400 million in subsequent delivery orders in support of the Skyborg Vanguard Program.
  • AFRS officer utilizes resiliency training during roadside altercation

    Capt. Jamail Walker, a San Antonio native and 362nd Recruiting Squadron support flight commander, was traveling on the freeway with a friend, June 12, when he noticed an injured and distraught individual outside their vehicle, walking in traffic.
  • Wildland Fire Branch battles fire season despite COVID-19

    In an effort to continue its mission, the Wildland Fire program reprioritized its goals for the year and enacted COVID-19 safety protocols for its firefighters to follow.
