  • National Museum of the US Air Force temporarily closed due to COVID-19

    All events and activities scheduled at the museum have been cancelled or postponed until further notice. The museum will re-evaluate its closure status on a week-to-week basis and will provide the latest updates on the museum website and social media sites.
  • Air Force National Museum’s 75th anniversary of D-Day in May, June

    On June 6, 1944, D-Day - the largest amphibious assault in history - took place as more than 150,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of heavily fortified French coast. Seventy five years later, the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force will commemorate this historic feat with several events beginning in May and continuing throughout the year.
  • 22nd annual USAF Marathon hosts international field

    This year marks the 22nd annual running of the U.S. Air Force Marathon. The warm and humid weather didn’t stop over 15,000 runners, walkers and spectators from all 50 states and more than ten foreign countries, from taking part at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Sept. 15.
  • Memphis Belle opens at National Museum of the U.S. Air Force

    Seventy five years ago on May 17, 1943, the crew of the B-17F Memphis Belle completed their 25th combat mission in Nazi-occupied Europe. They overcame insurmountable odds by becoming the first U.S. Army Air Forces heavy bomber to complete 25 missions and return to the U.S. Exactly 75 years after their last mission, the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force has the renovated Memphis Belle on display to the public May 17, 2018.

  • Doolittle Raiders share Congressional Gold Medal with the world

    On April 18, 1942, 80 men inspired a nation by flying 16 B-25 bombers off the deck of the USS Hornet and dropping ordnance on Tokyo. Now, 73 years later, Congress honored these men with the Congressional Gold Medal, presented to the Raiders in Washington D.C., April 15.
  • Doolittle Tokyo Raiders to receive Congressional Gold Medal

    Seventy-three years ago, 80 men achieved the unimaginable when they took off from an aircraft carrier on a top secret mission to bomb Japan. These men, led by Lt. Col. James H. "Jimmy" Doolittle, came to be known as the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders.

    The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force honored the first aviation mechanic, Charles E. Taylor, by unveiling a bronze bust of his likeness for permanent display during a ceremony in the museum's Early Years Gallery July 21.

    To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I in Europe as one of the nation's premier historical aviation events, the World War I Dawn Patrol Rendezvous will bring the excitement and adrenaline of early air power to Ohio, Sept. 27-28.
