Air Force’s largest aircraft, the C-5M Super Galaxy, contacted the AFRL's JFWORX team seeking assistance to increase the safety and decrease the manpower requirements of the current tire changing process.
  • Roper: Air Force of the future is faster, smarter, bolder

    “To become a more competitive acquisition system, the Air Force needs to be aware of trends in technology,” said Dr. Will Roper, assistant secretary of the Air Force for acquisition, technology and logistics. “The world is changing, we have to change with it. The key is to decide which technology will be successful and being able to act on those trends with a system that is leaner, meaner and faster than our opponents.”

    A team from Sketchbox Inc., an augmented and virtual reality prototyping company based in San Francisco, took six hours Sept. 6 to obtain multiple 3D scans of the C-5M Super Galaxy at Travis Air Force Base.
  • CDO, AFIMSC enable readiness through cloud-based visualization tool

    The VAULT Platform is the data office-sponsored platform that provides cyber-secure, cloud-based tools to connect, find, share and learn from Air Force data. It was implemented to be fully compliant with the Air Force Data Services Reference Architecture (Air Force released in February 2019). The AFDSRA provides a blueprint for Air Force organizations to implement platforms that are able to share data across the enterprise.

  • AFRL licenses second technology to local firm

    This marker, along with a second patent by Brott and his team involving infrared phosphor technology, has recently been licensed to Battle Sight Technologies, which expands to their existing collection of infrared technologies. This technology works similarly to the dials on a watch, absorbing ultraviolet light during the day and emitting an infrared light at night.

  • Squadron Officer School revamps Think Tank model, AI-aided PCS proposal draws attention

    One of the steps taken recently in redesigning the elective was to enroll select Squadron Officer School faculty members in various courses that excel in teaching innovative techniques to solve complex issues. Some of the courses were Stanford University’s Design School, the Joint Special Operations University’s Special Operations Forces Design and Innovation Basic Course at Hurlburt Field, Florida.
  • AFWERX Fusion, MDO Challenge drive collaboration between industry, military, academia

    To better foster a culture of collaboration and innovation within the Air Force, AFWERX Fusion brought more than 1,200 people from business, military and academia as well as close to 120 Multi-Domain Operations Challenge teams and companies together under one roof July 23-24.
  • Academy cadets’ invention to support battlefield Airmen awarded patents

    A team of Air Force Academy cadets took on this exact challenge while completing their mechanical and systems engineering degrees in 2016 and now their technology has been awarded three patents by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
