    The Air Force announced on March 22 a new Infrastructure Investment Strategy following a yearlong review that brings new analytical tools and focus that will enhance readiness at bases worldwide.
  • Security and Protection Category Council proves category management saves millions

    The Security and Protection Category Council has been busy saving the Air Force millions of dollars and fine tuning contracting processes using a structured approach called category management. Established in January 2017, the council has concentrated its efforts on strategically analyzing and managing spending to reduce total cost of ownership. The council has reduced duplication of effort and leveraged "buying as one" spending for five Air Force-wide contracts resulting in $10 million in rate and process savings.
  • AF Repair Enhancement Program saves millions of dollars

    The Air Force Repair Enhancement Program here performs marvels all the time. Recently, the four-person shop repaired a $20,000 power supply headed for the trash by replacing a $5 resistor, the equivalent of fixing a $300 phone with an eight-cent paper clip.
  • JB Charleston test new equipment, saves AF millions

    An operational evaluation of new synthetic tie downs and winch cables for the C-17 Globemaster III took place here in November 2016. Tie downs are ropes, cords, straps or chains that secure items during airlift operations; winch cables help adjust the tension on tie downs, securing the load.
  • Munition bunkers become rubble, save AF $3.5M

    Members of the 92nd Civil Engineer Squadron and the 92nd Contracting Squadron are working toward an Air Force goal of reducing its building footprint by demolishing 1950s-era munitions bunkers at Fairchild Air Force Base and saving the Air Force approximately $3.5 million in the process.

  • AF announces 23 AFSCs on reenlistment bonus list

    Enlisted Airmen in 23 Air Force specialty codes may be eligible to receive a selective reenlistment bonus (SRB) effective March 12, Air Force officials announced March 12. The Air Force is moving forward with a higher end-strength, so AFSCs eligible for the SRB program will increase to address retention of experienced Airmen in some key mission areas such as maintenance, signals intelligence and mental health.
  • ‘Military Saves Week’ highlights personal finance issues

    Defense Department officials have designated Feb. 23-28, as “Military Saves Week” to highlight the need for military families to reduce debt and save for the future, something Pentagon officials emphasize is key to force readiness.
  • Pay dates increase for civilians in 2015

    Civilian employees will have 27 pay dates in 2015 compared to the usual 26, so some employees might need to adjust their Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) contribution elections to receive the maximum agency matching contributions for 2015.

    The Air Force presented its fiscal year 2016 President's Budget request Feb. 2, following the Defense Department and sister services budget briefings.
  • AF government travel cards receive tech upgrade

    Beginning this month, Citibank is issuing chip and PIN-enabled government travel cards (GTC) to new card applicants, individuals whose cards will expire in 2015 and individuals who have reported lost or stolen cards.
