  • AMC C-130 rainbow fitting inspections complete

    Thanks to early detection by Air Force Materiel Command aircraft maintenance and engineering professionals and quick implementation of a fleet-wide time compliance technical order, C-130 maintainers have inspected and verified the viability of 108 of the 123 affected aircrafts’ lower center wing joints, or “rainbow fittings,” allowing for their safe return to service.

    Initiated and funded by Air Force Operational Energy, the course covers topics such as aircraft physics, aircraft energy requirements including propulsion & mission systems and the technologies used to meet those requirements. Future technologies are also considered, along with operational factors such as fuel logistics, wargaming and energy optimization.

  • Ensuring Rapid Global Mobility: Travis AFB supports JB Lewis-McChord, March ARB

    In February, the unit’s maintainers welcomed 18 C-17 Globemaster III aircraft from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. Over the course of the next four months there were three C-17s from JB Lewis-McChord at Travis AFB, at any given time, along with approximately 100 maintainers from the 62nd Maintenance Squadron, while JB Lewis-McChord completed a nearly 100-day construction project on its runway.

  • 571st MSAS training engagement with Costa Rican Air Vigilance Service

    The 571st Mobility Support Advisory Squadron completed a training event with the Air Vigilance Service, or SVA, of Costa Rica from March 23 through April 12 across two locations near the capital city of San José. This fundamental training was the 571st MSAS’ second full training engagement in Costa Rica, offering partners in the area courses from law enforcement and dog handling to aircraft maintenance, safety and aircrew flight equipment.
